New subsidized fridges for general public

The Energy and Water Ministry has launched a refrigerator exchange program for the general public, during which anyone with an inefficient fridge over seven years old will be able to trade it in for one of 50,000 new, subsidized machines. Subsidizing 30 percent – and up to NIS 1,250 – of each new fridge, the ministry said that each family should expect to save about NIS 600 per year on electricity bills due to the upgraded appliances.
“For the first time, the government is helping its citizens in purchasing power-saving devices,” Energy and Water Minister Uzi Landau said, in a statement released by his office. “As a citizen, you benefit twice: saving money, and saving electricity, which contributes to the security of Israel’s energy market.”
The new fridges – LG, Hitachi, Samsung and Beko models – are available at a variety of vendors in cities across the country, all of which are listed on the ministry’s website.
