Top White House aides Steve Bannon and Jared Kushner met and agreed to "bury the hatchet" over their differences, a senior administration official said on Saturday, in a bid to stop infighting that has distracted from President Donald Trump's message. Jonah Green reports.In an effort to kill headlines like these, reporting power struggles and name-calling between two of Trump's top White House advisors - on Friday, Jared Kushner and Steve Bannon had themselves a good talking to.A senior White House official telling Reuters Saturday the two met at the request of White House chief of staff Reince Priebus who told them that if they have any policy differences, they should air them internally and not in the press, where it was reported Bannon called Kushner, Trump's son-in-law, a "cuck" and a "globalist" which are apparently very foul words in the "alt-right."Priebus' message? "Stop with the palace intrigue" and focus on the president's agenda.According to the official, both aides agreed to bury the hatchet over their differences.The Friday meeting at Mar-a-Lago coming at the end of what has been a relatively smooth week for Trump, with the confirmation of his Supreme Court nominee, a meeting with Chinese president Xi Jinping, and a military strike in Syria that played well not just on cable news, but with American allies, as well.The Trump White House has been a hotbed of palace intrigue, most notably over the failed healthcare push and the rocky rollout of the immigration ban.Former Trump advisors telling Reuters that Kushner is trying to tug the president into a more mainstream position, while Bannon is trying to keep aflame the nationalist fervor that carried Trump to victory.
