The Damascus-based Palestinian terrorist group the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine – General Command on Tuesday denied that its leader, Ahmed Jibril, had been killed.Several reports claimed late on Monday that members of Nusra Front, a branch of al-Qaida operating in Syria, had managed to kill Jibril, who is affiliated with the Syrian regime.“We would like to affirm that comrade Abu Jihad [Jibril] is in good health and continuing with his work. The reports are completely untrue,” the PFLPGC said. The group said that the reports about the assassination of its leader were designed “to provide a service to the Zionist enemy, which is receiving blows at the hands of the Palestinian opposition in Gaza.”The reports, which were published by several opposition groups in Syria, claimed that Jibril died at Umayyah Hospital in Damascus on Monday after his car was targeted by a roadside bomb.Jibril has been leading the PFLP-GC since 1969. During the civil war in Syria, Palestinians accused him of helping the Syrian army in its assault on the Yarmuk refugee camp on the outskirts of Damascus.
