Erez Border Crossing with Gaza closes after mortar attack seriously injures two
36 projectiles fired at Israel from Gaza since midnight; rocket lands in open area of greater Tel Aviv with no prior alert siren.

Projectiles continued to rain down on Israel on Sunday from Gaza with a mortar shell seriously injuring two people at the Erez Border Crossing with Israel at around 1:00 p.m. Magen David Adom paramedics evacuated the two to Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon. MDA was treating a third victim in moderate condition at the scene. Following the attack, the Defense Ministry decided to close down the crossing. The IDF struck a launcher used by Hamas to fire on the crossing.The Erez crossing had remained open throughout Operation Protective Edge to transport injured Palestinians to Israel for medical treatment.Earlier in the day, a rocket fired from the Gaza Strip landed in open territory in the greater Tel Aviv area.An explosion was heard in the city just before noon, however no rocket alert siren was sounded.The IDF said on Sunday afternoon around 12:30 p.m. that 36 projectiles had been fired from the Gaza Strip into Israel since midnight.One of the rockets landed in a built up area, while 34 projectiles fell in open territory.The Iron Dome intercepted one rocket over Gan Yavne near Ashdod. Rocket sirens blared in southern Israel in areas adjacent to Gaza as well as in Ashdod and Ashkelon on Sunday morning. In the afternoon, a rocket siren sounded in the Beersheba area. The IDF continued to strike targets in Gaza on Sunday. The IDF struck 30 terror targets in Gaza by around noon on Sunday. The military also confirmed that it targeted three Palestinian terror operatives early Sunday.
