Tillerson: Trump 'very forceful' with Netanyahu and Abbas to compromise

US President Donald Trump put "a lot of pressure" on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to resume peace talks and make compromises, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told reporters in Europe Wednesday."There were very substantive discussions in Israel with both Netanyahu as well as Abbas."Tillerson stated that Trump was "very forceful" in his discussions with both leaders, adding that "everyone has to compromise.""When we solve the Israeli-Palestinian peace dilemma, we start solving a lot of the peace throughout the region," Tillerson told reporters.Netanyahu is reportedly meeting with US envoy representative Jason Greenblatt on Thursday in Jerusalem to continue discussions that took place during Trump's visit in Israel.US President Donald Trump concluded his two-day trip to the region on Tuesday as the issue of Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem in general and the Old City specifically has been hotly contested by the international community, which prefers to settle the city’s status within the context of a final-status solution with the Palestinians.
