In local action from the pond, the Central Blues blasted their way to a 13- 7 victory over hometown Metulla in the Israel Recreational Hockey League.Blues forward Josh Greenberg was all over the ice, racking up a season-high seven goals and getting defensive help from Mike Green and Shelly Kesten.Rookie teen goalie Yoav Regev recorded his first win and was steady throughout the 60 minutes despite Metulla getting over 40 shots on net including hitting the post four times.Metulla defenseman Levav Weinberg was forced to suit up half-way through the first period after Metulla’s starting goalie pulled a leg muscle.Weinberg allowed three soft goals before veteran Joe Bazes helped settle him down, making some key clearing plays with partner Lawrence Sternthal.Veteran winger Yaakov Frohlich, a member of the original Jerusalem Capitals team from the early 1990s, teamed with Greenberg and had a hat-trick and five assists. The duo had a second period two-on-one on Metulla where Greenberg faked out the lone Metulla defenseman with a spin-o-rama move, passing to the trailing Frohlich who waltzed in on a breakaway for an easy top-corner goal over Weinberg’s blocker.League president Danny Spodek reports that there are still three spots open for individual players at next month’s fifth annual international tournament, with teams expected from the USA, Canada and Europe. For more info on the league or tournament, please e-mail israel–hockey@hotmail.com.
