A Hamas-run military court in the Gaza Strip sentenced three residents of the small coastal enclave to death by hanging on Sunday for allegedly spying for Israel, and upheld the death sentences of three others, according to the Hamas-controlled Interior Ministry in Gaza. Sunday’s ruling raises the number of Palestinians on death row in Gaza to 10. Palestinian and international human rights organizations have previously called on Hamas authorities to place a moratorium on the death penalty in Gaza, saying that death sentences do not serve justice and the rule of law.
