Kopelev, Stepanyuk shine in Netanya swim meet

The 2016 Netanya swimming championships came to a close on Saturday at the Olympic pool at the Wingate Institute. The competition marked the start of the summer season, which this year will end with the Rio Olympics in Brazil.
Jonatan Kopelev, who has yet to book his place in Rio, was named as the male swimmer of the event after clocking a time of 25.00 seconds in the 50-meter backstroke, while Ukrainian Darya Stepanyuk claimed the women’s title thanks to her result in the 50-meter freestyle.
The championships began with a special ceremony honoring the coaching staff of the Israel national team before 50 children from the Netanya swim school exhibited their ability.
Swimmers from Israel’s Special Olympics delegation were also on hand to display their medal-winning pedigree.
