Prime Minister Netanyahu calls special meeting re recent allegations

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu invited several Likud members of Knesset and government ministers for a special meeting to be held in the Prime Minister's office on Thursday.
It is thought likely that the meeting will focus on how to best respond to the current political climate. As the Prime Minister of Israel is now the subject of critique from the State Comptroller and his personal attorney has been questioned by the Police over a costly submarine deal.
Minister of Culture and Sport Miri Regev, Regional Cooperation Minister Tzachi Hanegbi, Minister of Tourism Yariv Levin, and Minister of National Infrastructure, Energy and Water Resources Yuval Steinitz were among those asked to attend.

The Israeli leader is the subject of a strong critique published on Wednesday by the State Comptroller. In his report the comptroller stated that Netanyahu failed to disclose full details about possible conflicts of interest during his time as Minister of Communication due to his friendship with businessman Shaul Elovitch.
Mr. Elovitch is the controlling shareholder of Yes, Bezeq, Pelephone, Bezeq International, Halal Communications and Walla.
Netanyhau filled the position of Communications Minister until June 2016.
Netanyahu's personal attorney David Shimron was questioned on Tuesday as part of an ongoing investigation into the German Submarine affair. Shimron is reportedly suspected of pushing the purchase of submarines worth some $1.5 billion from German shipbuilder Thyssen- Krupp.
The decision to buy the submarines was made over the objections of the defense establishment.
