Steinitz, US Energy Secretary Moniz to increase energy cooperation

National Infrastructure, Energy and Water Minister Yuval Steinitz met with United States Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz this week in Washington, D.C., where the two officials opened a dialogue focusing on increasing cooperation in the sector between the two countries.
Among the specific focal areas of such collaboration will be natural gas, water, protection from cyber attacks and civilian nuclear energy, an Energy Ministry statement said. Joining the officials were ministry director-general Shaul Meridor and Department of Energy assistant secretary for international affairs Jonathan Elkind.
During the meeting, Steinitz emphasized the great significant of expanding bilateral cooperation in the energy field and advancing further joint initiatives between the two countries, according to the ministry. Moniz, meanwhile, said he welcomed the opportunity to work together to improve the energy field, the ministry statement said.
Moniz also discussed the US's intent to promote collaborative ventures in the Mediterranean basin with countries like Cyprus, Egypt and Greece, and stressed the need for Israel to finalize the disputed natural gas compromise outline at home.
