Vigil honors California student slain in Paris attacks

LONG BEACH, Calif.- More than 1,000 people overflowed a ballroom at California State University, Long Beach, on Sunday to honor and remember an exchange student who was cut down indiscrimately by suspected Islamic State militants in Paris on Friday.
Nohemi Gonzalez, 23, was dining at a restaurant fired upon by gunmen as part of a coordinated assault that killed 132 people and wounded more than 300 in the French capital city.
Gonzalez, of El Monte, California, was a senior at CSULB just south of Los Angeles. She was studying for a semester at Strate College of Design in suburban Paris.
School officials passed out yellow and black ribbons to an estimated 700 people who filled every seat in the student union ballroom. An estimated 500 more people gathered outside, where a candlelight vigil was held after the 45-minute program.
