Two rockets fired by Palestinian terrorists in Gaza landed in open territory near Ashkelon and Ashdod on Thursday morning, following several hours of tense quiet after Wednesday night's barrage of heavy fire.The Code Red air raid siren was sounded in the two southern cities alerting residents to take cover.Security forces were searching for exact landing locations.A number of citizens were injured while running to protected areas in Ashdod and others were being treated for shock, paramedics said.Ashdod closed schools in light of the attack.Thursday's attack came after Islamic Jihad terrorists in the Strip fired a large-scale volley of more than 40 rockets at southern Israeli communities near the border on Wednesday night.The Air Force responded to Wednesday's attack by striking 29 targets across the Gaza Strip.The bombardment of the western Negev marks the largest flare-up of Gazan terrorism since 2012.The cabinet was convening on Thursday morning to discuss the recent escalations in the South.
