Hatnua should leave the coalition and bring about an early election, the party’s MK Amram Mitzna said on Saturday.
“I personally think Hatnua needs to leave this impossible government and work to dismantle it,” Mitzna said on Channel 2’s Meet the Press. “The party has discussions on the topic from time to time.”
According to Mitzna, the six-MK party joined the government in order to have peace talks with the Palestinians, and Hatnua leader Justice Minister Tzipi Livni believes that negotiations are still possible.
Mitzna also repeated his claim that Bayit Yehudi is similar to Hamas, because both want one state between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea.
“Both sides want to crush the Palestinian Authority, which is our partner,” Mitzna explained. “Bayit Yehudi’s actions harm the national consensus... A clear majority of Israel society believes there is no choice, we must have a two-state solution.”
The Hatnua lawmaker defended his words by saying he didn’t call Bayit Yehudi Hamas and he wouldn’t sit in a coalition with Hamas, but he believes the religious Zionist party will lead the country to catastrophe.
Also on Saturday, opposition leader Isaac Herzog, chairman of the 15 MK-Labor Party, called on Livni and Finance Minister Yair Lapid, head of the 19-MK Yesh Atid party, to leave the government and support him as the next prime minister.
“I will form the next government; that is my goal. I am here to give hope... I am the only one who can talk to haredim and Lapid, and I’m the only one who can create a Center-Left bloc that will be an alternative to [Prime Minister Binyamin] Netanyahu,” he said.
According to Herzog, Netanyahu “does not offer any solution to our problematic situation in which citizens do not have security and the Israeli public has no faith in its peace partner.
“Likud supporters are allowing people like [Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee chairman Ze’ev] Elkin and [Deputy Defense Minister Danny] Danon to control them and they forgot [former Likud prime minister Menachem] Begin’s teachings,” he said.
