US condemns PA for naming Ramallah street after ‘Engineer'

The US State Department harshly condemned the Palestinian Authority Thursday, for the recent naming of a Ramallah street after arch-terrorist Yehiyeh Ayash.
In a statement to the press, State Department spokesman Philip J. Crowley said that the US strongly condemns “the glorification of terrorists,” and that “honoring terrorists who have murdered innocent civilians, either by official statements or by the dedication of public places, hurts peace efforts and must end.”
Crowley added that the US would “continue to hold Palestinian leaders accountable for incitement.”
Ayash, nicknamed “The Engineer,” was responsible for the deaths of dozens of Israelis in a string of terror attacks in the ’90s, until he was killed in 1996, in what was believed to be an IDF targeted killing.
Crowley also criticized the PA for inciting statements by its officials on the recent rededication of the Hurva Synagogue in Jerusalem’s Jewish Quarter.
