Salvage excavations uncover pagan tombs in Jaffa

Salvage excavations by the Israel Antiquities Authority in Andromeda in Jaffa have uncovered pagan tombs and the remains of pig bones, Israel Radio reported on Sunday.
According to the report, the tombs are from the end of the Persian period in the 4th century BC and the custom of placing pigs in burial sites in honor of the deceased was common custom among pagan populations at that time.
The Antiquities Authority said at the end of the salvage excavation the bones of the deceased were passed over to a representative of the Religious Affairs Ministry, that was present during the excavations, for proper burial.
