Israel to allow 1,000 tons of cement into Gaza to aid in storm recovery

Israel will permit the entry of construction material into the Gaza Strip in order to buttress efforts to repair damage done to buildings and infrastructure during last month’s fierce snowstorm, the Defense Ministry announced on Sunday.
In a statement to the press released by the Coordinator for Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), Israel has agreed to permit 1,000 tons of cement into Gaza, where international aid organizations are still digging out from the storm, which brought heavy winds and precipitation.
The United Nations has also expanded the number of aid programs in the Strip which were suspended after authorities discovered the existence of tunnels used to smuggle weapons from the Sinai Pensinsula.
