Barak appoints Ram Rothberg as next head of Israel Navy

Defense Minister Ehud Barak approved the appointment Thursday of Rear Adimral Ram Rothberg as the next head of the Israel Navy.Rothberg will replace Maj. Gen. Eliezer Marom who is retiring after closed to four decades of military service.Rothberg was the former commander of the Haifa Navy base and left the navy following the Second Lebanon War after a Hezbollah anti-ship missile hit the INS Hanit.In recent years, Rothberg served in the national security council.Barak also approved the appointment of Brig. Gen. Yossi Baidatz, former head of military intelligence and research director and commander of the National Defense College.
