It is a tremendously challenging and stressful job with the fate of the Jewish people riding in the balance. And in return, the prime minister of Israel gets to take home NIS 17,645.73 a month. For the first time since taking office, and in response to a number of inquiries, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made public on his Twitter account on Tuesday his monthly salary slip, showing that he grossed NIS 47,485.29 in February.Of that, he paid NIS 21,572 in income tax, NIS 2,652 to the National Insurance Institute, and NIS 2,054 in health insurance. Another NIS 12,440 was deducted for use of a business car, in his case a specially outfitted armored vehicle.According to the pay slip, the prime minister’s salary is for 42.5 hours of work a week. The pay slip does not mention that his residence is paid for, nor all of the job’s considerable perks – such as great travel benefits in the world’s finest hotels.Channel 2 reported that, although Opposition leader Isaac Herzog grosses some NIS 2,500 less a month than the prime minister, he actually brings in more money, because the amount deducted for his car, which does not have the same security requirements as Netanyahu’s, is considerably less.
