In Jericho, Greenblatt said he “met with Palestinian security chiefs and saw recruits training. He also “met a cross-section of folks from Gaza (which) gave me hope we can find solutions to humanitarian challenges while meeting Israel’s security needs.” Italian Foreign Minister Angelino Alfano visited Ramallah and held separate meetings with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah.Alfano pledged his commitment to a two-state solution and told Abbas that Israeli settlement activity was “illegal” and that Italy supported UN Security Council Resolution 2334 against settlement activity, which was approved in December.
