Hundreds gather in Tel Aviv in protest of stipends bill

Students call on gov't to stop discrimination against those in higher education institutes; violence erupts; police make arrests.

Hundreds of young people from around the country gathered in front of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art in protest of the Yeshiva students stipends bill Wednesday evening.
The rally took a violent turn as protesters attempted to block the road and clashed with police.

Students threw smoke grenades at one point during the rally. Police officers were trying to restore order and push the protesters away from the road.
A number of students were taken away by police for questioning as a result of their violent behavoir.
Many of the students were injured as a result of the clashes.
Police said that the students were holding an illegal rally and called on them to clear the roads.
The students called on the government to stop discrimination against those in higher education institutes.
Although the protests' organizers promised a huge demonstration in Tel Aviv, only about 300 students attending. The protesters carried signs reading: "The students are 'fearing' the future of the country," "We demand equal rights," and "A student is not worth less than a Yeshiva student."
