Police arrested a Kafr Kasim resident on Thursday for the illegal possession of a firearm, a regular occurrence in vehicle inspections.
This confiscation proved out of the ordinary, however, when a Police Department press release reported that an engraving was discovered on the handgun reading, “A gift from the President of Iraq Saddam Hussein for one who has defended the homeland.”
Just how the sidearm came into the possession of a resident of Israel is unknown.
Police have confiscated hundreds of guns, bomb material, and other weapons in vehicle inspections over the last few years, all of which had been smuggled from all over the world.
The owner of the weapon did not have a legal permit and he was taken by police for questioning and later arrested, according to the police statement.
