'The appointment of Aviv Kochavi will be brought to the cabinet for approval today,' said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. '[Kochavi] is an outstanding and highly accomplished officer; full of innovation and new programs [for the IDF].' 'I am sure that this will raise the IDF to new heights and give us the ability to meet the same challenges as before.' Netanyahu continued. 'Thank you to Gadi Eisenkot for a dedicated and important service during a difficult period. We'll have a neat farewell.' Eisenkot and Kochavi asked for a few more weeks for an orderly overlap. January 15th marks the end of Eisenkot's term in office. .
