Rafi Peretz, the chairman of the Union of Right-Wing Parties called the election "a great evening for religious Zionism." Speaking at his party's campaign headquarters in Kfar Maccabiah he stated, "thank you, God for putting us on our feet. Thank you to Bezalel Smotrich, my partner."
Peretz was Chief Military Rabbi of the Israel Defense Forces before being selected to head Bayit Yehudi following the departure of Education Minister Naftali Bennett and Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked who left to form the New Right.Now the freshman incoming Member of Knesset will head a party that may be chosen as part of the soon-to-be formed coalition government with exit polls indicating they achieved seven seats out of the 120- seat Knesset. The New Right by contrast may not make the electoral threshold. Bayit Yehudi is one of the three parties that comprise the newly formed URP with Smotrich, head of the National Union being the party's number two.
