Attorney Itamar Ben-Gvir, who is running as head of the Otzma Yehudit far-right Knesset list, filed a suit against former defense minister Avigdor Liberman, after the latter hinted that he was an agent of the Jewish Division of the Shin Bet security service.
Ben-Gvir warned Liberman that if he did not apologize within 48 hours of his remarks, he would be sued in court. On Sunday morning, Ben-Gvir fulfilled his promise and filed a claim in the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court for a quarter of a million shekels against Liberman. This is after the latter, as stated, did not retract his words.
The indictment contains the words of Justice Oded Shaham, who ruled in favor of Ben-Gvir in a similar case 20 years ago, when another person called Ben-Gvir a General Security Services agent.
Shaham ruled that even though this is a term that might appear to some of the public as positive, there are groups in which it may appear negative.
The current lawsuit claims that Liberman's claims are "ridiculous" and that Ben-Gvir is fighting the Jewish division's torture against the hilltop youth while Lieberman was part of the coalition that prepared this torture.
Ben-Gvir said this morning that "I understand that Avigdor Liberman is under pressure, he sees the polls, which reveal he is not crossing the threshold, and understands that his voters flock to vote for the right-wing parties. However, there are things that should not be said.”
