Ilhan Omar mocks pro-Israel protesters in speech

Rep. Ilhan Omar mocked a group of pro-Israel protesters who demonstrated outside an event at which she was speaking.

Referring to the protesters, she said that the "very fascinating people outside" had spoken for years about "an Islam that is oppressive," especially towards women, yet showed up to protest "a Muslim woman who is in Congress."

She went on, "I don't think any of them realize that people like myself and many of the people in this room could care less about what they have to say."

Omar was speaking at an annual banquet for the Council for American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) at the Hilton hotel in Woodland Hills, California.

Protesters staying at the Hilton hotel waved large banners saying “CAIR hates Jews” and “Ilhan hates Israel” from their balconies.

The congresswoman has been accused of antisemitism for her past statements, including a 2012 tweet in which she asserted that Israel "hypnotized the world,” and a comment last February that American politicians' support for Israel is "all about the Benjamins."
