One of the most successful pop/ rock bands of the 1970s – America – is going to make its Israel debut on August 7 at the Ra’anana Amphipark.Original members Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell are still performing the group’s enduring soft rock hits – from “Horse with No Name” and “Sister Golden Hair” to “Tin Man” and “Lonely People” – which set a standard of breezy mid-’70s AM pop reminiscent of the acoustic pop of Crosby, Stills and Nash. The trio became a duo in the late 1970s when original member Dan Peek left the group to pursue a more Christian-oriented solo career. While no longer on the charts, Bunnell and Beckley have faithfully kept the band’s legacy alive. In 2007, a younger generation of rockers proclaimed their allegiance to the band, with America joining members of Fountains of Wayne, the Smashing Pumpkins and My Morning Jacket as well as Americana popsters Ryan Adams and Ben Kweller in the studio for Here and Now, the band’s first album in more than two decades which created a resurgence in the band and their music.
