Next year will be the 200th anniversary of Mendelssohn's birth. The Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra - IBA and the Israel Opera present a commemorative season of his vocal works, and those of his spiritual mentor, J.S. Bach, whom Mendelssohn championed. The first concert on December 4 at the Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center features Bach's Magnificat and Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 2. The conductor is Stanley Sperber. The other works in the series are Bach's St. Matthew Passion and Mendelssohn's Elijah.
