The singer Yossi Banai was born in Jerusalem in 1932. He was an Israeli singer, actor, songwriter, comedian and film director. Banai received the Israel Prize and he is one of the greatest artists in Israel. Yossi Banai was also known as a singer with a deep voice and is known for his love for French chansons. He sang a lot of translated French songs by Georges Brassens, Jacques Brel and others. Naomi Shemer translated most of the French songs for him. Banai also performed a number of original songs that were written by Naomi Shemer, among which is 'Al Kol Eleh', which became a big, beloved hit. Her most famous song is 'Yerushalayim Shel Zahav', which was written and performed before the Six - Day War. She died in 2004.
