By DR. AFSHINE EMRANIManuel Valls: "If 100,000 Jews leave, France will no longer be France." Hubert Humphrey wrote that "The moral test of government is how that government treats those who are in the dawn of life, the children; those who are in the twilight of life, the elderly; and those who are in shadows of life, the sick, the needy, and the handicapped." Today, in the 21st Century, as I look back at the corrupt Iranian government, I realize more than ever, the moral test of a government is how it treats its Jews. #jesuisjuifThe only way out of darkness is for all decent people of the world #Muslim#Christian and #Jew to walk in the name of goodness and justice against evil. There is NO point in name calling across religions. We must build solidarity between all good people, build bridges not walls! Amen.Truth be told, I'm not Charlie - I don't seek to offend, I wish for unity, respect, peace. What's tragic in acts of terror, violence and hate, is that they make us choose sides, force us to make "them" and "us" out of ordinary good people. I'm not referring to the terrorist who live in the fringes - all of us know they are vile. I am speaking of good, decent, ordinary people who truly love their neighbors, who care about their kids, their shopping lists, a good book or a movie, a family night, a glass of wine, and a Merciful God. A stone is thrown, a glass broken, and we start finger pointing- you are Muslim and I am Jew, you are light and I am dark, you are from the West and I am from the East. That act of hate shakes our very core and divides us. But if we take one step back, remove the act of terror, the violence, we are all the same, loving, peaceful, friends - until defriended and separated by a vile act. The tragedy of terror is that it ripples out all over the world to plant seeds of resentment in our hearts. Sometimes, even months after that act has passed, hatred in the heart lingers and we feel ashamed. It is our responsibility to avoid that easy temptation - to fall prey to those who inject hate into our souls. We must not allow them to rape our essence which is love. We are all guilty and we must do better. This is perhaps the hardest test of our characters but if we are not for each other, if we don't stand up for one another, we will all fall. Respectfully. Humbly. #charliehebdo#jesuishuman
