The year 2016 did not turn out to be a happy year. During this year, the human values (often mistakenly referred as liberal values) suffered a crushing blow by the populists. The lies triumphed over the truth. The emotions prevailed upon the wisdom. The conscience of the world slept while thousands of the innocent people were murdered by their own puppet leader who allowed a foreign country to massacre his own people. The tragic pictures of dying children broke the hearts of many but could not stop the brutality. Thousands of refugees seeking shelters all over the world faced the bitter realty that they were not welcome in many places. On one side the technological advancements reflect the brilliance of mankind and on the other hand pettiness and narrow mindedness of the people exhibit the moral bankruptcy of human race. It seems that we are going backward now. There are no great leaders on the world stage who look promising. Most of them are mediocre and power hungry. In this environment, the year 2017 does not give us any hope. Bertrand Russell exposes the truth of our time by saying; “The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves and wiser people so full of doubts.” The time has come for wiser and compassionate people of the world to come together and raise their voices against the bigotry, shallowness and pettiness of the leaders of this world. Let us stand firm against the evils. History is on our side and the truth would prevail but we must work hard to remove the political debris of the year 2016. Let us change the year 2017 into a Happy New Year.
