A dryer isn’t usually the most exciting appliance, but AEG is trying to change that perception with its TX8C962BM model, which boasts significant energy savings and a range of technologies worth noting. But is it worth the investment?

Returning to a Separate DryerAfter a period of using a combined washer-dryer, I decided to switch back to a separate dryer. The limited capacity and the inability to run another load simultaneously made the combined unit unsuitable for my needs. With a separate dryer, you can choose larger machines that can handle the laundry of an entire family.

It's important to note that both products have their pros and cons. A combined washer-dryer is ideal for small homes or families where the laundry load isn’t too large. However, a separate dryer offers greater flexibility, larger capacity, and is better suited for larger families or those who accumulate laundry.

Design and OperationThe dryer we tested is undoubtedly an impressive device visually, though it doesn’t introduce groundbreaking design. The illuminated touch buttons are responsive and seamlessly integrated into the front panel. The door opens wide and smoothly, providing easy access to the extra-large drum. The overall design is luxurious and modern, with clean lines and a brushed finish. However, its size may be an issue for those with small laundry spaces. Overall, the TX8C962BM is a beautifully designed dryer that combines style and functionality.

Another noteworthy feature is the separate water drawer, which adds a level of convenience to the dryer's operation. It's easy to remove and empty, eliminating the need to deal with an internal water tank. Additionally, a drain hose can be directly connected to the dryer, avoiding the need for manual emptying.

Quiet and SmartLet's take a moment to focus on the advanced features here: an A++ energy rating, BLDC inverter technology with an ultra-quiet motor, a HEAT PUMP system for reusing warm air, enhanced insulation for even quieter operation, and an innovative balancing system. In short, AEG promises quietness, efficiency, and energy savings. In practice, for someone who remembers the noisy old dryers, the result is surprising.

Another technology worth noting is ABSOLUTECARE – a heat pump system that ensures gentle and energy-efficient drying. The clothes come out soft and pleasant, as if they were dried in the open air. And the drum? It moves in special patterns tailored to the fabric type, so even the most delicate items are protected. It also includes a program for almost every fabric type you can think of – cotton, outdoor clothing, and even blankets and pillows.

The dryer also features automatic sensors that adjust the drying program to the fabric type and humidity level. No more guessing how long to set the dryer – it simply stops when the clothes are dry, even if there's still time left on the pre-set timer. Another feature I appreciated: the internal LED lighting allows you to see exactly what's happening inside the drum when the door is open.

ResultsLet’s start with the conclusion: it's a refreshing change. The first thing that stood out was the dryer’s ability to dry clothes with remarkable precision. No more clothes that are too wet or too dry – they’re always just right. It might sound basic, but with my previous dryer, which I still remember, this was never a given.

Additionally, one of the things that made me happiest was that the dryer didn't shrink my jeans. I don't know about you, but I’ve grown used to my jeans shrinking after every drying cycle, which was always a bit disappointing, forcing me to air-dry them. With the new dryer, my jeans stayed the same size, which is... delightful.

In fact, this dedicated dryer is a completely different experience compared to a combined washer-dryer. The latter required precise settings, sometimes even multiple drying cycles, and consumed a lot of electricity. The result? Clothes that remained damp and a laundry room that turned into a tropical sauna. I was also impressed by the ability to quickly warm clothes for easy ironing or dry them at two levels – foldable in a closet or sun-dried. Most likely, you'll use the closet option. Additionally, the dryer received the prestigious Woolmark Blue certification, which indicates gentle and quality care for wool garments, similar to hand washing.

Is It Worth the Price? So, the big question is, are all these advanced features worth the high price? (about NIS 3,900). Well, that depends on you. If you're looking for an ultra-quiet dryer that saves you electricity and preserves your clothes for the long term, this dryer is an excellent investment. On the other hand, if you lack space at home and aren't a laundry hoarder, you might still consider a combined washer-dryer.
