In a surprising move, Apple, known for its strict self-repair policy, is making a dramatic shift by offering original replacement parts for all iPhone 16 models. The company now provides access to genuine parts for those who want to replace batteries, screens, cameras, or other components independently. These parts are available through Apple’s Self-Service Repair Store on its website. Note: The program and service are not available in Israel.
According to iFixit, Apple has even improved the iPhone 16’s design, making it easier to repair. The iPhone 16 received a 7/10 repairability score from the site, a notable improvement compared to the iPhone 15’s 4/10 score. On Apple’s dedicated repair site, users can find complete repair kits or individual parts, with prices varying by phone model.
For example, a battery and screw kit for the iPhone 16 Pro Max costs $119, while the same for the standard iPhone 16 costs $99. Significant refunds are available for repair kits if the replaced part is returned. For instance, the iPhone 16 Pro Max battery price drops to $61.88 after returning the old battery.
Apple launched its self-repair program in 2022 for a limited number of devices, providing customers access to original replacement parts. However, the company notes the service is "intended for those with knowledge and experience in repairing electronic devices," meaning repairs may be less accessible for those inexperienced with part replacements.
