The Carrefour branch is the first new business to open in the city of Sderot since the terror attack on October 7th and will provide a source of income for the city's residents and the surrounding area.
The branch's employees, who had been dispersed throughout the country for 7 months, took part in the emotional event. Among them was Yelena, the veteran cashier who lost her husband during the murderous attack, as well as the management team of Electra Consumer Products and Carrefour, suppliers, and hundreds of residents of the city.
Carrefour, which renovated the branch damaged by a missile on October 7th at a cost of NIS 12 million, opened a hypermarket branch for the residents who recently returned to the city. The new branch will offer residents a new shopping experience with quality Carrefour products, groceries, dairy, fresh fish, bakery products, and more at attractive prices.
Branch manager Itzik Eliyahu, who was trapped in his home with his family for three days while battles raged outside with terrorists, returned to work with the entire team after 7 months: "All branch employees went through a terrible experience on October 7th, which will take us a long time to recover from. Even today, some employees are afraid to come to work, especially since the Gaza rocket fire continues. I lost two very close friends on October 7th, and there is not a single employee at the branch who has not lost someone close to them. It was important for us to reopen the branch, both for our employees and for the residents. We opened a Carrefour hypermarket branch with the lowest prices for the residents and invested tremendous efforts to bring innovation to the branch and create the best shopping experience for people here in Israel."
Zvika Schweimer, CEO of Electra Consumer Products: "On Carrefour's first anniversary, we are proud to open the 90th branch of the network specifically in Sderot. In one year, we opened 90 stores throughout the country, a global record pace for branch openings. We brought about 1,500 quality Carrefour brand products at market-breaking prices. We launched a credit card club with Bank Hapoalim and invested in long-term rental agreements in the best locations in the country. And most importantly, everyone wants and knows Carrefour. We will continue to bring products and grow for the benefit of Israeli residents."
