"Gardens today are gaining momentum. Their popularity is breaking records. After the COVID-19 period, we all realized the importance of every green space. A garden, roof, or balcony has become the star of the home. Now, even in the current and very complex period, the green lung is powerful and important for both body and soul. The customer does not give up on it, even when it is a small piece of outdoor space, and looks for solutions to expand its area."
These words are from Shai David, CEO and owner of Carcom Landscape Design.
"The role of green walls is to increase the area of the outdoor and green spaces. It is a garden in every sense, only it is vertical, standing at 90 degrees from the classic and familiar garden. The green wall is a wonderful solution for balconies, roofs, and any outdoor space where a green lung is desired. The use of vertical walls expands the garden space due to the horizontal and vertical utilization," he explains.
According to him, "It is possible to create a variety of designs in green walls with special combinations of steel, corten, etc., where the main idea is a wall that provides value to the landscape and continues the design language of the outdoor space."
What plants can live on a wall? "You'd be surprised," he says, "there are many types of plants that can live on the wall, alongside many perennials that do not need to be replaced every season. However, it is important to consider that green walls behave exactly like a garden and require maintenance: removing moisture from the grass, draining water, checking the vegetation, providing space for roots to develop, and more."
In conclusion, David says, "Green walls integrate beautifully with the garden style. An industrial-style green wall will be one that combines steel and wood and other materials identified with the project. A wild green wall gives the impression that the balcony is like a magical forest. And there are many more great examples."
