A new scenic promenade in the Galilee landscape, the longest in the north, was inaugurated last Thursday. The length of the boardwalk is 4.5 kilometers of walking and cycling route up Churchill Forest. The boardwalk training, the result of a joint initiative of the KKL-JNF and the Nof Hagalil municipality, was carried out in the last year and a half. The boardwalk, which overlooks the view of the fields of the Emek and Mount Tabor, is designed to create accessible and wide walking and cycling routes for both walkers and cyclists, in a safe and continuous manner for the residents of the Galilee landscape and all citizens of Israel.
KKL-JNF stated that precisely in this complex period, when dealing with the severe war damage, which includes many fires in the forests and natural sites all over the north, it is even more important to open a green lung in the region, because despite the vast areas that have become sooty due to the fires that broke out from the missile launches from Lebanon , we must continue to develop and encourage the planting of additional forests and new hiking trails in the great outdoors. The entrance point to the boardwalk begins near the Ze'ev neighborhood in the Galilee landscape.
At the entrance, a wide parking lot has been prepared that includes dozens of regulated parking spaces. In addition, the memorial complex for the fallen, which stood at the entrance to the forest, is being restored. "On the boardwalk island, they will enjoy not only the view, but also diverse vegetation that covers 25 thousand dunams," explained the project manager on behalf of the municipality, Moran Calandro, noting that two asphalt tracks have been prepared on the boardwalk: a 2-meter wide walking track and a 6-meter wide cycling track. The construction cost is estimated at over NIS 20 million.
