Beko, Europe's leading home appliance brand, is expanding its integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in household appliances with adaptive laundry systems, autonomous cooking, AI-based energy management, and groundbreaking predictive maintenance.

The brand is unveiling a series of AI-based innovations across its range of smart home appliances, including washing machines and cooking products. Today, artificial intelligence is the driving force behind Beko’s product strategy, allowing the company to offer smarter home devices, customized to modern consumer needs and significantly more environmentally sustainable.

A growing demand for smart home appliances has led to a sales increase of over 16% in the European Union during the first half of 2024. The new technology is part of Beko's mission to use AI to drive positive change in the industry, with groundbreaking advancements in adaptive technologies, autonomous cooking, AI-based energy management, and predictive maintenance capabilities.

"AI is transforming how we interact with our homes, making daily routines more intuitive and efficient," explained Hakan Bulgurlu, Global CEO of Beko. "At Beko, we harness its power to innovate with devices that learn, adapt, and anticipate our needs. From self-improving cooking to personalized laundry and dynamic cooling algorithms, we are committed to revolutionizing the home experience. By optimizing resource usage through smarter appliances, we aim to create a future where home life is sustainable. The advancements we are making with AI are key to our mission of delivering advanced technologies that benefit our customers and respect the planet we all call home."

Beko has developed a comprehensive plan to encourage AI adoption among internal and external stakeholders, based on three pillars: talent and people, products and platforms, and technological infrastructure. As part of the plan, Beko's new AI-powered products include:

Personalized laundry that learns and adapts to the user: Beko has introduced its CustomWash/CustomDry function, an AI-powered adaptive technology that dynamically adjusts laundry habits based on user preferences. Paired with Beko’s HomeWhiz app, CustomWash/CustomDry analyzes user inputs and learns laundry patterns using AI to deliver a premium customer experience. Testing results show up to 20% shorter wash cycles and a 25% improvement in washing performance.

Optimal cooking experiences aided by AI: Beko brings AI-powered camera technology to its smart ovens, delivering self-improving cooking experiences for optimal kitchen results, regardless of the dish. With food recognition and cooking suggestions for more than 30 different food types, Beko’s new autonomous cooking technology uses AI to finish cooking according to custom browning levels. Combined with Beko’s HomeWhiz app, users can remotely monitor the food in the oven to ensure that no culinary experience is missed.

AI-based energy management: The HomeWhiz app tracks energy and water consumption in connected devices, helping to reduce their environmental impact with personalized smart recommendations and energy-saving modes. The AI-based cooling algorithm, CoolAdapt, dynamically adapts to user habits and environmental conditions to maximize energy savings, achieving up to 20% energy efficiency compared to some conventional cooling methods.

AI-based predictive maintenance for smart home appliances: Beko is proud to introduce a new AI-powered predictive maintenance model that continuously monitors devices to detect and alert users to potential issues well in advance. The model significantly improves device uptime, enhances customer satisfaction, reduces service costs, and extends product lifespan. Currently available for Beko refrigerators, the model will expand to additional product categories and alerts users to potential problems days before a malfunction occurs, via the Beko HomeWhiz app.
