The European aviation group Lufthansa announced today the extension of the suspension of flights to Israel until January 31, 2025, despite the ceasefire agreement with Lebanon. The decision applies to all airlines in the group, including the German Lufthansa, Swiss SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Belgian Brussels Airlines, and the regional airline Eurowings.
Passengers whose flights were canceled as a result of the decision will be able to cancel their tickets without charge or reschedule their flights. The company stated that it regrets the inconvenience caused to its customers due to the situation.
The group's decision to extend the suspension of flights highlights the ongoing complexity of the situation in the region, as even during the ceasefire period, international airlines continue to exercise caution regarding flights to Israel.
However, there are also some bright spots in the sky, as just yesterday, the airline Air Europa announced its return to operations in Israel starting December 18. In addition, Azerbaijan Airlines and Aegean have resumed flights, with Wizz Air on its way.
