The Dyson Chitosan™ series contains numerous ingredients, with the key component being the chitosan molecule. Chitosan is a molecule unfamiliar to many in the beauty community. Those who are aware may know it as a derivative of shellfish, often used as a supplement or in certain packaging solutions. Through research, Dyson discovered a version of chitosan derived from oyster mushrooms, making this ingredient the cornerstone of Dyson's flexible hold technology, which helps maintain the hair's natural movement.
The new products are based on Dyson's Triodetic™ technology, allowing flexibility in various hairstyles without stickiness or hair breakage. These flexible bonds enable the hair to move, bend, and retain its style, ensuring a flexible hold throughout the day, even in high humidity conditions. This results in smoother, shinier, and less frizzy styles.
According to James Dyson, the company's founder and chief engineer: "While other styling products use simple polymers that bond hair fibers together like glue, Dyson's formulas work differently. When used in Dyson Chitosan™ formulas, the complex macromolecule helps create flexible bonds that support each hair fiber individually, providing a flexible hold throughout the day with movement and shine."
The series includes products for two hair types (curly and straight):
Pre-Styling Cream: Prepares. Sets. Nourishes. For use on damp hair. Reduces frizz by up to 50%, providing nourishment and softness. The formula transforms from a cream to a transparent serum when worked by hand, ensuring even application and touchable, natural-feeling hold that lasts. Contains softening ingredients, silicones, and oils to reduce frizz and protect the hair's natural shine. The cream is suitable for all hair types, with four innovative versions—straight, wavy, curly, and coiled. Each version contains ingredients tailored to different hair types to achieve the best results.
Post-Styling Serum: Sets. Nourishes. Defines. For use on dry, styled hair. Reduces frizz by up to 50% and is safe for use on colored hair. Suitable for all hair types, it sets and defines your final hairstyle with flexible and soft hold throughout the day, providing movement and shine. Hair immediately feels nourished with a glossy finish. The hairstyle remains intact even after heat or air drying. The formula contains hyaluronic acid, which acts as a weightless shield in relative humidity of up to 80%.
Dyson's research and development didn't stop at the formulas. When Dyson engineers explored distribution systems, they identified issues with existing solutions such as tubes or jars and decided to design an in-house solution to address these problems. The precisely designed solution by Dyson has been rigorously tested to ensure you receive the same exact amount with each pump—0.22 ml each time—to prevent waste and excessive use. Additionally, the full-sized products are refillable, and the outer packaging is durable and recyclable.
The Dyson Chitosan series is the only formula designed to work alongside all of Dyson's hair care technologies, no matter the final look you're aiming to achieve. These products will be launched in Israel in 2025.
