Dyson, renowned mainly for its home care products like vacuum cleaners and air purifiers, is launching its new headphones—Dyson OnTrac. This release follows the Zone model, which combined air filtration with noise cancellation but faced issues with short battery life and a high price tag. The OnTrac are Dyson’s first headphones solely dedicated to audio, offering a blend of active noise cancellation, high sound quality, and unique design.
Priced at $500, the OnTrac features replaceable ear cushions and external covers and comes in four basic colors with over 2,000 possible color combinations. Besides customization, Dyson claims that the OnTrac provides the “best noise cancellation in its class” through a system of eight microphones and exceptionally long battery life of up to 55 hours of continuous listening.
The headphones are equipped with 40mm drivers aimed at delivering more direct sound to the ears and can reproduce frequencies from 6Hz to 21,000Hz. The OnTrac supports SBC and AAC codecs and LDHC for higher-quality wireless audio, though the latter is only compatible with select phones. Additionally, the headphones come with a foldable carrying case, though it does not offer full protection against water and dirt.
The OnTrac will be available for purchase on Dyson’s website and at select retailers, with a wide range of customization accessories. However, the high price tag may deter some consumers. Nonetheless, Dyson seems to offer a unique product that could appeal to those seeking high-quality headphones with a personal touch.
