It’s here at last. Four years after the original PlayStation 5 launched, Sony has released its next-generation console, the PlayStation 5 Pro. As of today (Thursday), the console is available worldwide, including in Israel. Before the official launch, we received the console from Isfar, Sony’s official distributor in Israel, and we’re sharing an exclusive first look at the new model.
What’s in the Box?
Like its predecessors, the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Slim, the PlayStation 5 Pro includes the standard accessories: a DualSense controller, a USB Type-C charging cable, an HDMI cable, an AC adapter, and two small stands for horizontal placement.
Refreshed Design
The PlayStation 5 Pro keeps the design lines of the PlayStation 5 Slim but adds black ventilation vents. However, a minor drawback emerged during initial testing: the console’s stability. The PlayStation 5 Pro wobbles slightly when placed horizontally, while it remains stable in a vertical position with the designated stand—though you’ll need to find the right space for it.
What About the Disc Drive?
Sony has decided to forgo the built-in disc drive in this version to make it more compact. So, if you still buy physical games, you’ll need to purchase the disc drive separately. On the plus side, the console’s compact size means it’ll hardly take up any space in your living room.
What Else is New?
The most notable upgrade in the PlayStation 5 Pro is its graphics. Instead of choosing between Fidelity mode, which prioritizes high image quality, and Performance mode, which favors a higher frame rate, the PlayStation 5 Pro allows users to enjoy both. This dual capability elevates the experience, delivering stunning graphics and a high frame rate.
The new GPU (graphics processing unit) is 67% stronger than its predecessor, with 28% faster memory, boosting rendering performance by 45%. Ray tracing capabilities, responsible for reflections, shading, and light effects in games, have also been improved by two to three times in certain scenarios. Additional features include Wi-Fi 7, variable refresh rate support, and 8K resolution compatibility.
