LG Electronics (LG) has solidified its position as a leader in design excellence by securing 23 awards at the 2024 International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA). Among the accolades were two gold, one silver, and three bronze awards, further reinforcing LG's role as an innovator in design.
This year's awards carry special significance, focusing on LG's commitment to socially valuable and sustainable designs, alongside its distinct aesthetics. A standout gold winner was the "LG Comfort Kit," a set of accessories aimed at enhancing the accessibility of LG products, making them easier to use for people of all ages, genders, and abilities.
The kit includes seven carefully designed accessories, such as the "Easy Handle," which helps individuals with limited strength or hand function open and close appliance doors using locking arms. The "Easy Ball" allows for button operation with the palm, while the "Easy Hanger" simplifies the process of hanging clothes in LG's Styler, particularly benefiting wheelchair users.
These accessories seamlessly integrate with existing LG products, are easy to assemble and disassemble, and feature rounded edges for added protection. Moreover, the Easy Handle, Easy Ball, and Easy Hanger are made from recycled plastic, emphasizing LG's commitment to sustainability and a circular economy.
The second gold award went to the "LG gram Fold" foldable laptop, which combines the ultra-light design of the LG gram series with the flexibility of a foldable display. Using thin OLED technology, the device transforms from a 12-inch laptop into a 17-inch tablet, with a user interface that adapts to each mode.
For instance, when folded like a book, the screen automatically adjusts its aspect ratio and orientation. Users can draw with a stylus, split the screen for multitasking, or activate a virtual keyboard on the lower screen. Alternatively, the device can be used as a laptop with a wireless keyboard. The matte glass finish adds a touch of luxury, while the magnesium alloy body ensures durability and portability, weighing only 1,250 grams.
More Wins for LG at IDEA 2024
LG's success at IDEA 2024 wasn't limited to the gold awards. The LG CineBeam Q portable projector won a silver award for its compact design, offering maximum mobility with a 360-degree rotating handle suited for any space. Bronze awards were given to the Therma V™ R290 Monobloc heat pump, LG’s dual inverter compressor air dryer, and the intuitive user interface of the CLOi ServeBot robot, known as "LG CLOi UX 2.0."
The "LG CLOi UX 2.0" features a display that adjusts font size based on the user's distance from the screen, and the robot’s status is intuitively communicated through colors and movements. Earlier this year, the CLOi ServeBot also won prestigious awards such as the Red Dot Design Award and the Ergonomics Design Award, further establishing its leadership in design.
In addition to these accolades, LG received 17 finalist awards for various products, including monitors, air conditioners, washing machines, dryers, humidifiers, speakers, micro LED displays, and software like webOS UX, LG ThinQ UX, and Sound UX.
“We are committed to continuously delivering designs that are not only refined but also innovative and sustainable, in line with the evolving lifestyles of our customers,” said Hwang Sung-gul, Head of the Design Management Center at LG Electronics.
