Software update causes Galaxy devices to get stuck in an infinite loop

Samsung confirms SmartThings app update caused Galaxy S10, Note 10 devices to get stuck in boot loop. Suspended update, working on fix.

Samsung has confirmed that an update to its SmartThings app has caused serious problems with older Galaxy series smartphones. According to initial reports from the 9to5Google website, the update distributed by Samsung in recent days caused devices from the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10 series to get stuck in a "bootloop" and actually become unusable. Additionally, users have reported experiencing the same issue with the Galaxy M51 and A90 models as well.

Meanwhile, Samsung announced that it is aware of the problem and has suspended the distribution of the update. In an official statement sent to the Engadget website, a company spokesperson confirmed the issue: "We are aware that a limited number of Galaxy smartphones running Android 12 reboot themselves repeatedly during an update to the latest version of the SmartThings app," the spokesperson said. "Upon discovery of the issue, we immediately suspended the update and are working to resolve the issue. Affected customers can contact the Samsung Support Center for assistance for their devices."

A temporary solution to the problem is to reset to factory settings - which will cause the loss of all unbacked data. Samsung recommends that affected customers contact support for further assistance. It is important to mention that the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10 models are already five years old, an age when most companies stop providing regular software updates, so in any case Samsung's reference is noteworthy.
