A new study, conducted by the travel company The Thinking Traveler, ranked the most crowded tourist attractions in Europe, according to user reviews on TripAdvisor. The list was compiled by finding locations with the most mentions of "crowded" and "busy".
According to the research, surprisingly it must be said, Edinburgh Castle in Scotland is the most crowded destination on the continent. Almost two million people visited its impressive halls - where kings used to walk - in 2023. And if that sounds like a not so impressive number to you, when compared to visitors to other European attractions, let's remember that the Scottish castle is about half the size of the Tower of London, for example.
Additionally, as the number of tourists in the Scottish capital increases at certain times of the year (such as during the Fringe Festival), Edinburgh Castle can feel particularly crowded at certain times.
After Scotland Castle, the second busiest site, is Buckingham Palace. Third in the ranking is the water park "Siam", on the island of Tenerife.
