Abbas, Sisi agree to continue consultations and coordination

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Monday agreed “to continue consultations and coordination” in the wake of US President Donald Trump’s changes to American policy on Jerusalem, Abbas’s spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeinah said.

Last Wednesday in a speech at the White House, Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and initiated a process to relocate the US Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

However, the American president stated he was not taking a position on the final status of Jerusalem, which he said Israel and the Palestinians would decide in future peace talks.

“We will continue to consult with our Arab brothers, especially Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the rest of the Arab parties to confront the coming dangers following the unacceptable American measure recognizing Jerusalem as the occupation state’s capital,” Abu Rudeinah said in statement published on the official PA news site Wafa.
