A terrorist stabbed and lightly-to-moderately injured an Israeli police officer at Bab al-Huta in Jerusalem's Old City early Sunday morning before the suspect was shot and killed by officers, according to Israel Police.
An additional police officer was lightly-to-moderately injured during the attack, and both of the wounded officers were transferred for medical care.
Paramedics declared the 19-year-old suspect dead at the scene and additional police forces arrived to clear the area.
Jerusalem District Commander Superintendent Doron Turgeman arrived at the scene and is currently conducting a situation assessment, Israel Police added.
The stabbing attack comes amid rising tensions in Jerusalem and the West Bank in recent weeks.
On Monday, clashes between Arabs and police were reported at the Damascus Gate as Muslims marked Isra and Mi'raj, when the Prophet Muhammad took the Night Journey in which the Al-Aqsa Mosque is mentioned.
Additionally last week, four Palestinians were killed in clashes with Israeli security forces in the West Bank within 24 hours.
The attack also comes after tensions between Jews and Arabs in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of east Jerusalem in recent weeks, which included a series of violent clashes.
