Foreign Minister Yair Lapid "abandoned Israeli democracy" by not joining Defense Minister Benny Gantz to form the previous government under then-prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu in 2020, Gantz said at a convention marking three years to the establishment of Blue and White.
"When the nation is in trouble, I answer the call," Gantz said at the event. He added that Lapid, in contrast, "always cared about himself."
Gantz attacked Lapid and those "who were willing to abandon Israeli democracy at the time of the COVID-19 pandemic."
Former Blue and White MK and IDF chief of staff Gabi Ashkenazi was also present at the party's event. Ashkenazi served as a foreign minister prior to Lapid before retiring from Blue and White and political life following the formation of Prime Minister Naftali Bennett's government.
