US President Joe Biden called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday afternoon to update him on the US's military support to Israel following the attacks by Hamas since Saturday morning.

US Vice President Kamala Harris also spoke with the Israeli leader.

Biden told Netanyahu that the American aid to Israel would include ammunition, Iron Dome interceptors, and the USS Gerald R. Ford - the world’s largest aircraft carrier.

Biden reiterated his belief that all countries should condemn Hamas's brutal atrocities against Israeli civilians, in what he described as "akin to the atrocities of ISIS from many years ago."

Both Netanyahu and Biden agreed to speak again in the next few days, the White House said.

US may send even more support

The Wall Street Journal reported that the US was considering sending a second naval aircraft carrier closer to Israel, to which they were citing US defense officials. The Pentagon said it would also be adding fighter jets in the East Mediterranean region.

Turkey's President Tayyip Erdogan criticized the decision, stating his belief that it would commit "serious massacres" in Gaza.
