The Representative Council of French Jewish Institutions (CRIF) has strongly criticized the French government for its stance in a recent United Nations General Assembly resolution on Saturday night. The resolution, which called for a Gaza ceasefire and passed with a 120-14 vote, notably omitted condemnation of Hamas for the October 7 massacre and did not directly demand the release of the 230 captives in Gaza.
"At the UN yesterday, France was the only G7 country to have voted for a resolution on the situation in the Middle East making no reference to the Israeli hostages and not mentioning Hamas, a resolution welcomed by Hamas itself!" the CRIF expressed. The organization further questioned, "On what other subject can we imagine France voting with China, Russia, Cuba, Afghanistan, Iran, and all authoritarian regimes against most of the major democracies?"
Israel's Ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, was vocal in his criticism of the resolution, stating, “The goal of this resolution's truce is that Israel should cease to defend itself against Hamas so Hamas can light us on fire.” This sentiment underlines the heightened tensions and mistrust surrounding the ongoing conflict.
