IDF tank accidentally fires at southern Israel, vehicle hit by shrapnel

An IDF tank accidentally fired from Gaza at an open area near the southern Israeli community of Netiv Ha’asara, Israeli state broadcaster KAN reported on Friday afternoon. 

A vehicle was reportedly hit by shrapnel. No injuries have been reported.

The IDF later stated that a tank had fired a shell from within the Gaza Strip that deviated from its course and landed in Israeli territory.

The military added that it was investigating who was at fault for the incident.

Additionally, the IDF noted that the reports of a vehicle being damaged by shrapnel in the area of the Ashkelon Beach Regional Council were being looked into as part of the investigation.
