The Israeli Government Press Office published a post in English on its Facebook account on Wednesday morning, announcing the assassination of Hamas' Political Bureau chief, Ismail Haniyeh. The post had the word "eliminated" written across his face in large black lettering.
After a few minutes, the image was removed from the Facebook account. Nevertheless, global media had already referred to the post as official confirmation that Israel was responsible for the attack.
